[Career Coaching News] YOLO: You Only Live Once!

YOLO

Add another important acronym to your dictionary! YOLO: You only Live Once! It expresses the view that one should make the most of the present moment without worrying about the future. This attitude is often used as a rationale for impulsive or reckless behavior. Yet COVID-19 has confirmed that death does not discriminate.  And it can come at any moment. YOLO is, therefore, resonating with many professionals. The YOLO economy is characterized by an attitude which has captured a certain type of bored office worker in recent months. It involves the realization that life can be shorter than expected. It also involves the fearlessness to pursue work-life-balance and one’s own dreams.

NYT:  Welcome to the Yolo Economy

For some, YOLO has become the battle cry of a young generation. But the YOLO economy has also become a work force trend. A recent Microsoft survey found that more than 40 percent of workers globally were considering leaving their jobs this year. It is also popular among tech workers. Among users of a popular tech platform, a recent survey found that 49 percent of its users planned to get a new job this year.
